Energy saver gives an option to reduce processor speed on the 17" PowerBook. Anyone know what speed it is at on this setting?

The 667Mhz is correct, but it may also be of importance to know that the energy saver setting *disables* the L3 cache, further slowing it's ability & saving juice.

I'm not sure of that, however, it's stated in the 12" PB's user manual if you have one.

heh, that's a good tip -- haven't cracked open a user's manual for a Mac in years so I didn't even think of that.

At reduced processor speed the 17" runs at 667Mhz and the L3 cache is turned off.

just wondering would lowering the clock speeds extend the battery life of the 12" or 17" if you were to use to watch a DVD or something like that?? thanks and does any one know how much longer the battery lasts?

Lowering the Mhz speed to watch a DVD pretty much ensures that you can watch a full 2-hour movie on a single charge, but doubtful that you'll get much more.

It depends on what you're doing. Generally speaking, you'll save about fifteen minutes of battery life by not running your PowerBook's processor at full speed. The optical drive and screen also drain considerable amounts of power.
