Powerbook G4 CD Drive Problem

I have a G4/667 with a CDRW/DVD drive, and it recently stopped working. When I insert a disk, It spits it out 10 seconds later. It also seems to be making circular scratch marks on every cd i put in. Im guessing the drive is trashed, but could it be anything else?

If you don't use the DVD function, then you should rip it out and replace it with a $20 CD-RW drive. Most drives will work just fine (can boot X and 9.n, and works with Toast).
