I need to get a copy of VPC so I can do work related stuff at home i.e. Minitab, log into network and such. Anyone use VPC 6 with their 400 TiBk?? Does it work well or is it a dog?? I need to update the PB, but I dont want to do so till atleast after WWDC,prefferably at end of year, so I need to be able to make use of VPC till then.

I didn't use VPC6, but I did use VPC5 on my 400MHz. I don't know that 6 is much faster than 5 on the 400, as that machine doesn't support Quartz Extreme. I primarily ran Win2K, but also worked with PC-DOS and Win98.
I found that the system was somewhat usable for simple programs. The lack of speed really seems pronounced when starting up applications, but once they're running, it isn't too bad. I had 640MB in my system, which improved performance. Just make sure you have a lot of RAM and set the virtual machine to use at least 256MB of it.

How much RAM do you have? I have 392 MB, and VP6 is acceptable as long as I'm not running much else. Sometimes the text blinks as I type in certain forms. I don't know what Minitab is, but as long as it's not graphics-intensive, you should be able to make it until your next purchase.

I really think it depends on what you're doing in VPC. If you're going to be using an application that opens and closes windows often you will hate life. I say this because on my Ti400 I could see each and every window element being drawn individually. Once the window is open it is very usable. In fact, I remember a time when Word was faster at actually editing in VPC than it was in OS X. This is back when the scroll speed was terrible in OS X. I would say give it a shot and see what you think. If you don't like the performance you can always rethink your purchase timing.

Thanks for the replies. Most of the things I would be doing are checking e-mail with Lotus, Word, Excel, PP (limited). Minitab (statistical analysis tool) is the biggest thing I would need to use, so I can analyze data at home instead of staying late. It does draw charts and graphs so that may kill it or make it doggie. i guess youre right I can always try to bump up the new purchase or stay late till I can buy. Been able to do deal with it till now, so another couple of months wont kill me, I hope.
