I was told by the Apple Store that PowerBooks ship 3 day air. However, FedEx tracking says I'm not getting the PowerBook until May 28th, even though it shipped May 21. They are delivering the Base Station on the 24th (Saturday), so why wouldn't they deliver the PowerBook then, which would be the 3rd day?
Also, what the heck is 'held at sort facility'? Customs? The wait is going to kill me. I was really hoping to have it for the holiday weekend.

Hmm, strange indeed. My only guess is that it arrived there too late to go out for weekend delivery, thus it's held there until Monday.

Why not just call FedEx and ask them?

I've never called FedEx, but UPS has been nothing but misery to talk to for me. The last thing they want to do is to help you.

Try it. They've always been great to me. I think you will get your answer within two minutes. The number, I think, is 1-800-GO-FEDEX.

I would have been happier not calling them. 'Held at Sort Facility' means that they are just sitting on it because it is not due for delivery until the 28th (next Wednesday). They could have had it here today or tomorrow, but since it wasn't due, they're just going to sit on it for a while. It will since in Indy until Tuesday, and then fly to Florida for delivery on Wednesday.
What crap that is.

Hi Wallinbl:
That means that it's at their distributor, that's all. It's come in with other orders and they need to drop ship it to you after they process the bulk shipment. How do I know that? I've dealt with that many times. If you paid for 3-day shipping, however, then you're entitled to a refund of some type. The other thing is that it might still wend it's way to you on time.
I'd say that you could give Apple Customer Relations a call and see if there is any way to get it to you sooner than that -- especially if you paid for expedited delivery.

I didn't pay for any shipping at all. I inquired about 2nd Day shipping, but I was told by the person I spoke with at the Apple Store that all PowerBooks are sent via 3rd Day International. The FedEx representative I spoke to said that it was not sent 3rd day, but was sent 'IP Direct', which she seemed unfamiliar with.
The thing I find most strange is that it originally appeared on the FedEx tracking page on the 20th, with an estimated delivery date of the 23rd. Then, when I checked again on the 21st, there was no tracking information dated the 20th, just from the 21st, along with a message that it was received after the cut off. I repeated this twice to the lady at FedEx, and she remained silent as if I hadn't said anything. I asked her if there was anything that could be done to expedite delivery at this point, and she said there was nothing.
Oh well. I'll do some yard work this weekend.

It could be worse, mine spent a solid week in customs as our fine government ensured that Apple wasn't sending me guns or drugs.
Thanks, Uncle Sam!

That's too bad (that Fed Ex is holding it). When I got my PB in February, Fed Ex was shipping and delivering those puppies even faster than the time we'd paid for. It was great!!
I'm only sorry you didnt' get to experience the same. It would have been nice to have it for the holiday weekend.

It could be the holiday weekend that's making them hold onto it. Since your package doesn't have to be delivered until next week, they are probably only putting out enough effort to deliver the packages that have to be delivered. That way, more of their employees can enjoy the holiday.
