Have you seen this article?

Why Panther May Tear Up Longhorn

Good news!

My favorite part:

On the performance front, Apple is reportedly working to match XP's GUI responsiveness as well as launch, boot and log-in times
Many of you probably knew this already, but being relatively new to Macs, I am excited to hear that OS X is going to become snappy as well. I have almost no complaints with it other than its annoying lag at times.

OS X isnt laggy.

It's the hardware that is laggy.

I am pretty sure it is OS X that is a bit laggy. Of course, the hardware makes a difference, but you notice the same lag whether using a 600mhz G3 or a 1ghz G4.

Besides, OS X is known not to be as "snappy" as some other OS's. It is definitely, at least partially, software related.

Oh, and I realize I accidentally put this in the wrong forum. If a Mod could move it to the OS X section... Thanks.

Seems to me OS9 is considerably faster than OSX. It is good to hear it will be made faster, as it certainly can be.
