Read this article about both Panther and the new chip.

Turns out that it seems that the PPC 970 is going into the Powerbooks first.

I'm tempted to say I'd immediately buy one of these babies when it comes out!

...of course, maybe it's only a rumor?

One thing is for sure, I'm looking forward to Panther!

MAYBE it's only a rumor? It's the name of the site for crying out loud.

Yeah, I guess you're right!

Someone sent me that link and I didn't pay attention to it.

Still, several sites are now discussing how the Powerbooks are going to be the first Macs to have the 970.

Here is the PowerPC Roadmap again.

Rumors, rumors, rumors...

I you belived them, I would be tying this on (delete as appropriate);

Intel Pentium 4,
G5 8500 from Moto,
G5 running at 3 Ghz,
IBM Power4,
IBM Power5 Lite,
GPUL,
etc etc

All in a dodecehedron shaped case that levitates above the desktop...

From what I heard recently, the 970s had no real Power management system sorted as yet, so a Powerbook first release would be surprising... Not saying it won't happen, but I think that we should look to the Powermac line first.

And what is so surprising that 10.3 is going to be faster? They will finally have got rid of all the debug code

Peace,

Marc

I'd also like to point out that not only is this article from a rumor site, but even worse, it's from MacOSRumors, of all places.

That alone guarantees that the chips won't be in Powerbooks until mid-next year.
