This would be the ultimate mod: take the mainboard and other guts of a Ti or an Big-Al and place it inside a 20" or 23" cinemadisplay. External keyboard gets connected via bluetooth....woa!!! impressive

You could get the Inspiron 8500 with the same resolution as the 23 inch HD by apple.

Just play around with some other guys 12's and 15's for a while and your 17" will feel huge again!

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

We're still talking about laptops, right?

Most people won't let their 12" or their 15" go astray for too long.

Gents, you might be joking about screen size but actually it is not an impossibility. When you take into consideration that it is already possible to make a role up screen for television why not one for a portable as well. The role up keyboard is already known to us for quite some time. I truly believe that in some years time we have a processor with a role up screen and keybord in our bag.

And as far as you want a bigger screen today is concerned just connect your TiBook to a beamer and hen you can hae a screen of more than 100 inch on your wall. (and those beamers are easy to carry with you nowadays)

For some reason this thread has given me an idea for a new nickname for the 17":
Big Gay Al's, Big Gay Laptop

All I can say is my 17" inch is rigidly constructed with a large hard drive so that I can use all of my RAM.

So I went to the store to see if I could upgrade to a 20 inch or if there were any accessories to go with what I have and there was this girl there looking around. She wasn't sure what she wanted so the assistant took out a 12 inch and showed it to her in different positions. I had my 17 inch with me and I showed it to her and then she finally made up her mind. She was really impressed by the solid construction and features.

The 17 inch might be big but after using it intensively for an hour it gets quite hot and I do worry about the smoke.

LOL

anyway i perfectly understand the size thing. I used to have a 12" icebook, and when i got the Titanium i thought, oh my good this screen is monster!

6 months later, my feelings 've changed so much as to even consider the Ti a small computer. i want more screen.

an IMAX powerbook anyone?

I use my 17" PowerBook for hours at a time and it does not not run hot. The only time the fan turns on is when I'm playing a game or watching a DVD.

Does anyone remember the failed internet appliances by companies like Compaq and 3Com?

Laptops are meant to be taken with, iMacs and Cubes are meant to be home computers that can move (but generally do not).

I wonder if Apple could come up with a good internet appliances. What a horrible niche, though. NewtonII, anyone?

X.
