Ok, here's the story:

I took my powerbook g4 12" into the Valley Faire apple store for repair (the latch was broken) They take it, i sign the work authorization form, etc, and go home.

I look at my work authorization form the next day, and it's not the right "Albert Wu" (some other guy in cupertino, zipcode 95014, whereas my zipcode is 95070, why this is important will be apparent in a second.)

I quickly call up the apple store, and they say that the computer is already on the way to apple, so they can't do anything with it. they tell me to call the dispatch center in texas.

THEY tell me that, since they haven't recieved it yet, the details are a little bit iffy, but they'll do their best to change their database.

wonderful.

next day, i decide "hm, maybe i should check up on it."

I go to the website and type in the repair number and my zip code (95070) and turn up no results. I try a couple more times, and then i try using 95014 instead. bam, it works.

so what's up? is apple's database not synchronized? or did they not actually change the address, and someone else is gonna end up with my powerbook?

though, in their defense, i prolly shoulda looked at the work authorization form more carefully before i signed it, but still, nothing like this has ever happened before.

Well, you're probably very anxious but this is what you do:

Call Apple and go to option #3 and request Apple Customer Relations.

Once you get through request that a case manager help you track this repair and the return of the system.

Now, what you also want to do is to specify THAT IT BE RETURNED *ONLY* TO THE STORE WHERE IT WAS SHIPPED OUT OF.

Then go in and pick it up.

Problem solved.
