sorry for the stupid question but, would it be possible to use my 32 inch tv as an external monitor with a 12inch al book using s video?

Yes, but you won't be able to use it "as a monitor" since the resolution of a TV is much less than a normal computer monitor. Text would be almost unreadable. But if you just want to view DVDs or pictures or whatever, you can.

Actually, the resolution of my Sony Wega TV is 1024x768... so it's the same as the powerbook. Text is readable.

It depends if you're using the typical video connections for NTSC (composite, S-video). Those can't pass more than about 720*480 to your TV even if your TV can display more. Your Wega TV like most other recent models has intelligent circuitry that uses the higher res to anti-alias and get around the limitations of the lower res NTSC (or PAL - Europe) video standard.

OTOH, if your TV also has a DVI or VGA port, then you really will see the full 1024*768. Most TVs only have standard video and antennae connectors though.....joe

The original poster noted that he wanted to use s-video cables, which would preclude a 1024x768 resolution, no matter what kind of TV he was using.
