Well, here's a poll to determine the number of 12" to 14" iBook users, with the clamshell thrown in as an added bonus

I own both a Rev B Blueberry and a 12" 800 mhz Combo at the moment, but it would only let me vote once...

I hate "clamshell" OK, it's better than toilet seat.

I have both a RevA iBook and an iceBook. Yes, iceBook.

dang, my 14" iBook is takin' a whoopin' in the poll. I really don't understand the bad rap they get on this and other forums. For me, working on my 20" flat panel PC, I could not see myself going to a 12" Mac; and portability is not an issue for me, so 14" 800mhz combo was the way to go!!

By the way, this is my first post here and the iBook is my first Mac, unless you count the Apple IIe I had back in 1980-something.

Well, I have both a 12" "ice" and a clamshell. The ice one is my main one, though.
It should also be noted that the 14-inchers weren't available yet when I got mine (but I would have gotten the 12" anyway).

@mdc: Thanks for the warm welcome. Yes, I love my iBook, still getting used to osX, but it's going well so far. I still have A LOT to learn. One thing's for sure, the iBook and osX are both gorgeous!!

It does seem silly to refer to the ibook as icebook.

I just got my new ibook 900Mhz and I'm pretty thrilled with it. This is my first owned (as opposed to borrowed/work issue) apple item and it handles really well.

I've just about peeled my eyes reading all the posts here to learn more about my new baby... and so far, there's plenty of stuff to keep one busy! Suggestions please on good downloads and software to help me get the most out of this cool machine.

Just a thought: I think the 14" iBooks should be priced lower than the 12" ones. I don't think many people would pay a premium for a machine which has limited advantages over the 12" model.

Why would they do that, 14" is more expensive to make surely...

Bigger always commands a premium in price. And the 14" offers a bigger LCD (even tho' you're not getting more space). I don't see the logic of lowering the price of something that costs more.

And don't call me Shirley.

Since so few 14" iBook owners were responding, I had to stop lurking and go ahead and register on this forum just to get my vote in. Are there really so few 14" iBook owners out there? I really love my 14" iBook!

I am in bed with my ibook 900 with the combo drive and I couldn't be happier! Just the right size, and not so shabby looking either.

I take my ibook to bed with me hehehe since I like to surf and whatnot in bed, that way I can just conveniently fall asleep when the mood strikes. I've been gritting my teeth trying to download the java upgrade, it keeps dying on me. Well, just have to try again I guess.

Congrats on your new ibook.

It's a wonder Apple still sell the 12".

Prediction: Apple drops the iBook entirely.

I've owned both a 12" 500mhz and a 12" 800mhz. Plus I have a G4/800 Powerbook, so the 14" isn't really necessary, especially considering that it doesn't really offer a higher resolution.

Let's be honest - that's hardly a surprise, is it? Bearing in mind that 12" iBooks (in various forms) have been available for a much longer time than 14"...

12" new 800 w/cdrom for me. The small 12" footprint beats any other small laptop in the business.....and 4.5 hours of battery life w/Airport card even smokes Centrinos!

Ugly? The only difference is the size...how can it be ugly compared to the 12"?

It's not incredibly bigger and/or heavier, either...

for me it was either 12" 800 or a 14" 700..... not much choice there, considering the former is also cheaper.... So i got a RAM upgrade and it ended up around the same price as the stock 14" 700.......

besides, the 12" slips into the backpack easier
