I'm thinking of getting an external LCD display to use on my desk with the 12" powerbook.

Does anyone have any suggestions about a good one to get. I think I want a 17 inch display. I also know the 12" PB will support a higher resolution on external displays.

I'm confused about the vga/dvi/adc thing. Can this machine use the apple displays with the adaptor or not?

Get an LCD with VGA in.

The 12" can't use an Apple ADC connection display straight from the box, you will need a $299 adaptor. I can't remember the name, but I'm surre someone can tell you where.)

It can use a VGA display natively.

It can use DVI with an adaptor.

In general brand wise, I would say to go for a 'Formac' display. From what I have seen they have excellent products... you won't go far wrong if you use them as a benchmark.

you need this adapter to make an apple lcd work with your 12" pb.

it costs $300, and sort of defeats the purpose of owning a digital lcd.

the samsung 720 (t?) seems to be a popular monitor with powerbook users.

It just sucks that apple sells these stupid ADC displays without a reasonable way to connect them to their portables.

I guess its not really the "year of the portable"

I really like the way the apple displays look but I have to use a crappy $300 adaptor to connect it.

What a bummer
