I will be traveling to Malaysia and have a question about charging my PowerBook G4 400 while I'm there. I have an international converter that a friend let me borrow, but do I need to do anything on the Powerbook to put it in 240V mode? Any other gotchas for international power?

Your PowerBook will be fine.

You don't need any kind of voltage convertor with your powerbook.

It can take anything from 100V to 250V+ just fine.

However, if your staying at a Hotel, just remember you may not be able to plug your modem into the hotel telephone system. The exchange systems can sometimes blow out your modem. Just get a modem line tester to be on the safe side.

what about the 50Hz vs 60Hz rating? i know that the powerbook can handle either without any adapters, but what about other devices?? how are they affected, if at all?

I have used PBs in India, Nepal, China, etc. and have had no problems. Just used a small adaptor, no bulky converter. PBs are equiped to do that for you. I would, however, be careful about letting your PB trickle charge. Simply put, the more time you can survive without your PB plugged into questionable power grids the better.
