I've been debating for quite some time whether to score a 15.2" superdrive gigabook now, or wait for the aluminum 15.4 we all know is coming...

I was fairly undecided until I came across the following deal:

1ghz superdrive tibook (15.2")
512Mb/60Gb/etc.

$2499 including a 3-year applecare + shipping.

Does this sound like a good deal to you guys?

Also, it's from a person (a UCLA student who scored several by coattailing a bulk order and is selling them on ebay etc.). Does anyone have any suggestions on possible payment options that would protect me from getting screwed on this?

Anyways, I hope this works out... my iBook 600 combo is starting to feel really old/slow the more I ponder this deal (I got one of the last batches w/ the 8mb Rage Pro 128, so no QE or really any 3d at all for that mater).

Thanks,

Alex

Just so you know, that UCLA student probably purchased the machine for $1999 from UCLA's student store.

The store still sells em for that price to any student that walks in. A friend of mine in the grad school program bought the same machine for $1999, including 3 years of Apple care.

So that student is making a lot of $$ off you. You might consider negotiating harder, or finding a college campus near you, and seeing what their prices are....

I know he's making a ton, but the only school around me that even offers apple discounts is GA Tech... and their prices are TERRIBLE.

The best deal I could get otherwise was the ADC 20% one-time discount, but I added it up and it was about $400 more (w/ applecare and the 1gb RAM). Oh, and one more thing. My previous post was incorrect on 1 point...

The machine has 1Gb of RAM, NOT 512Mb

So... got any payment suggestions or do you really think I could do better?

Thanks,

Alex
