Hey all,
So I did some digging, and the guy I was going to get the 1ghz tibook from has a pretty mediocre e-bay rating... mediocre doesn't cut it for that kind of cash w/ me.
So my question is... does the ADC student discount apply to refurbs from the apple online store as well as new products?
Any other suggestions for cheap (online) ways to get a new or refurbed tibook? I've tried pricegrabber/pricewatch... and a couple others I think but I don't recall which.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Alex

The current ADC price of a stock PB 1GHz 15.2" is HIGHER than UCLA, USC, and many other state university's prices.
ADC applies to NEW equipment only.
Why not just bribe a student ($50 or $100) and they will buy the PB 1GHz with 2 years of AppleCare for $1,999 (without the bribe) for you?
The hardware purchase program for developers/student developers is easily viewable on Apple's site.

I'm not sure what university you got to ... but mine only gives Apple's normal educational pricing ($50 off :-\ ). The ADC Student store gives around $400-500: http://store.apple.com/AppleStore/We...ADC?qprm=38839
The 17" is cheaper w/ the discount than the normal 15".

ADC Discounts do *NOT* apply to refurbs listed on Apple's website.
Also, to keep a constant eye on your best Apple prices, look at www.macprices.com and also keep an eye out at www.powerbookcentral.com for great updates on refurbs on the net.
Aside from purchasing a refurb from an internet Mac reseller or using the ADC Discount, your only other alternative for the cheapest way to get a Mac is find a RELIABLE seller on eBay.
BTW, if you need more info. on joining ADC, just hit me back.

I just wanted to thank you for the warm welcome! A friend of mine pointed me here when I presented him with my dilemna about getting the 12"/15"/waiting for the 15" aluminum.
I found all the posts (yours especially) to be very helpful in making my decision.
In the end I decided on the 15.2" superdrive because I really want the bigger screen (I currently have a 12" ibook/600) and the 17" is just too damn big for my tastes, I saw one in person at the apple store and decided immediately it was too big for my needs.
The 15" aluminum got the boot because I opted for not waiting for a rev. b (after reading the STRONG advice against buying rev. a apple hardware) as I need the new machine ASAP (my girlfriend's windows laptop finally bit it... she's lusted after my ibook ever since I got it so now my home will finally be ALL MAC!!!!!).
Thanks again,
Alex

Outstanding! If you're in college, take a good look at what your University is offering as far as 15" TiBook deals...some colleges are handing out discounts LARGER than the ADC Discount! So if your school is one of them, you'd be in luck. If not, you can always sign up for ADC and get a massive discount on a new TiBook...let us know if we can help!

Don't forget that when you are comparing the price of the ADC discount that you have to pay $99 to join ADC. Factor that in with anything your school may provide as far as educational discount.

Also don't forget that the ADC Student Discount is meant for DEVELOPERS. If everyone and their mother starts using it, Apple will probably withdraw the programme, which would suck as I plan on using it when I am legally a student (stupid people can't understand that a 16 y/o is also in full-time education ).
