I'm itching to trade in my TiBook SuperDrive for a new 17" AlBook, but seeing as how I've waited this long, wonder if it might make sense to wait for RevB (end of June?)?

Have RevA owners run into any problems? What are people's predictions of when RevB will show up, and what updates it will bring?

Many thanks in advance

You know, I'm thinking hard. Structureally I can't think of one thing I don't like about my 17", so I can't say, "boy I wish they'd fix 'x' ". There were a number of things I didn't care for on my TiBook. Internally, nothing there either. They did so much right on making this computer. A rev b would be a speed bump I'm sure. Other than that, I can't think of how they would fix something that didn't need to be fixed!

I don't think there'll be an update very soon. The 17"s have just begone to ship in meaningful quantities a couple of weeks ago, whish makes an early July revision unlikely. I'd say mid-August... I don't expect there to be many differences either. Speculating on next-gen chips etc being included is a practical impossibility because we have so little information on those. If I were you, I'd go for it now.

My PB17 is as close to a 'got it right the first time' for Apple as I've seen.

I have a problem with Apple Mail and the internal modem -- which I am sure is a software problem as I don't have this problem with Safari.

The screen comes down and leaves a small outline when closed.

I think it's the best PB Apple has made since the Pismo. [The TiPB was crippled in Airport and poor build in fit and finish].

Can't see any reason to wait. I've had mine up + running for 2 weeks now, and it took most of that time to get everything transferred (from Ti 667), but now it all runs so much smoother and faster.

Having said that, I've been with APPLE since OS 5, and whenever there's a NEW OS, about 1 update in I find myself spending a weekend trying to get the thing working again. I had that with 10.2.4 most recently, and I'm sure it will come again.

I've had my 17" for about a month now (upgraded from a 1GHz TiBook). The 17" is almost perfect. The only issue I have is a minor one. While sleeping, if my external speakers are connected via the headphone jack, I get a really annoying screeching sound. Other than that, I've had absolutely no problems. Those "Rev. A" worries are nonsense (at least in this case). It's not like the engineers forget what they've learned from previous designs.

Isn't this already Rev.B? Wasn't it held back because the screen got bent (and broken) too easily? My screen is very stiff, much more so than my 12"
