I did a search and didn't come up with anything so i was wondering if any of you have a docking station for the 15" 1ghz ti, don't think there is any for 12" or 17". How is it, what extras does it have more (ex usb, firewires etc). Or if anyone knows where they are selling them?? thanks

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

All the 'docks' I've seen are just port replicators....Dell and others use a special interface (SCSI?) to hook into a dock. Seems like a waste of money just to save having to hook everything in.

So what you are saying is that the docking stations don't really add anymore usb's, firewires and whatever else to the powerbook its just an extension?? Never used a docking station so i don't know how it works in terms of if I hook up a powerbook to docking station then the firewire and usb don't work anymore only the ones on the docking station? Thanks for your response.

When I had my 1GHZ Tibook I got a Bookendz docking station.

The pros were that it made docking to my Cinema HD screen & external keyboard, mouse & peripherals very fast. It was a port replicator mostly with just one extra port that was VGA monitor out. The Powerbook only had DVI natively so the dock allowed for DVI or VGA.

The cons: expensive, clumsy to attach to the dock. You had to pick up the dock and slide your finger underneath while you slid the powerbook into it. The tricky part was the port cover on the back of the Tibook kept flipping closed and then you would have to try again until the cover slid underneath the dock. Hard to describe.

Another negative was you were warned in the manual to shut down the Powerbook before connecting or disconnecting to the dock. Kind of inconvenient since I mostly slept the laptop. I did try a few times without shutting down and the computer would sometimes kernel panic. I think it was mostly a OSX issue of plugging & unplugging USB devices while the screen was closed but either way it didn't like it.

No 17" dock available yet, although they have made a dock for the iBooks with side ports that is like a brick that plugs onto the ports on the side.

I doubt I would buy a similar product if made for the 17".
