Hi, 3 months into my 15" SD experience, the battery first started only charging when the PB was asleep or turned off (orange light on charge cable) but not when powered up (got flashing green light on charging cable).

Now battery wont charge at all. Charging cable light off when PB in sleep or off and flashing green light when turned on. Xchartge reads:

2003-06-04 22:05:27: Charger plugged
2003-06-04 22:05:32: Charger unplugged
etc.
etc.
etc.

Contacted AppleCare and they send me a new replacement battery after running through a couple of otpions (reboot, reset PMU, etc.). Plugged new battery in and again no charge when turned on, only when sleeping and off and eventually no charging at all ..

Spoke to AppleCare again and they suggested it was probably a faulty charger, so will drop by an Authorsed Support Centre and try that out.

From the above what you you guys rekon, faluty charger or worse, faulty PB logic board. I hope its not the latter as this would mean sending my PB to Germany and be PBless for 3 weeks or so!

Antonio

P.s. Anyone know why I had problems posting this with Safari, had to use Camino.

sometimes when i fall asleep and my battery runs empty (even after the emergency sleep) it won't find the battery again.

what helps me is running the tibook on the AC, and while running on the AC and being powered up removing and reinserting the battery.

don't know why, might help you...

mouse: yes, that sometimes allows me to recharge the battery, with computer plugged into AC and powerd down. But never works with computer powered up.

Does anyone out there know how the charging sensor works? Is it in the PB or in the charger? Something obviously is detecting what the charge of the battery is and charging if necessary. My charger makes a clicking sound, as if it was switching on and off all the time so perhaps my problem is with the adapter not getting a good 'read' of the battery?

Arnt you concerned about your PB not working properly?

i read on the apple knowledge base that the battery contains a small chip that controls te battery.

if your charger is making "click" noises i would suspect that it has some sort of internal problem and switches off ... some sort of protection?

would be nice if you could try using a charger from someone else, maybe you've got an apple dealer nearby?

ps. i have no clue how the charging sensor works, other than my guess about the chip in the battery itself that tells the machine its powerlevels.

I had that happen once about a year ago. It was the AC adapter that needed replacing.
