I finally isolated the condition of the problem, so here goes nothing:
A few times in the past week, I've gotten careless in the handling of
my 700 mhz iBook. I have the computer set up with 2 other accounts
on it (though I am the primary user).
Anyhow, instead of shutting down, I'll logout, close the lid, and the
ibook usually goes to sleep.
however, when i got sloppy, I'd carelessly close it while it was
logging out. At first I thought it was a random sleep issue but then
I just realized that I've screwed up the ibook somehow...b/c when I
open it up, touch the keyboard or mouse, it doesn't wake up. Pressing
on the power button doesn't do anything either. I pretty much have to
unplug the unit, unscrew out the battery, wait about 30 seconds, and
put the battery back in and boot up.
Err....what exactly is happening by closing that lid prematurely during
the logout process? I'll have to make sure to be careful from here on
out, but I wanted to see if this has happened to anybody else before
and get a full explanation about why the ibook's stuck.
