Airport Extreme would be the ideal.

I have good luck with the Netgear WG602 access point. It does 54mbit 802.11g like Airport Extreme.

It doesn't do all the firewalling, port forwarding, printer sharing, modem connecting type stuff that the AE base station does. But it has better range and is usually around $99.

This all really depends on what you are looking for. I've been looking into this issue for a while as I am about to move this summer and am thinking of taking my home network completely wireless. (I'm so sick of wires running everywhere...*eugh*)

Geekwagon has suggested a really good one with the NetGear, but it does lack the great functions that something like the Aiport Extreme Base Station includes. I know for a fact that the LinkSys wireless router is complicated in its setup for some people, but pretty reliable. The reason for me knowing that is that some guy in my apartment building owns one and can't figure out how to put encryption on(being slightly uneducated about *PC's* other than knowing that he just wanted a wireless network). Guess who also gets access to that network?

MacWorld had a pretty good article recently about this. Here it is online: http://www.macworld.com/2002/07/reviews/routers/

Hope that leads you in the right direction.
