I chose an OS9 folder as my startup option (from 10.2.6 preferences). something must be wrong with the folder as I get the folder and question mark when I turn the machine on.

Can someone tell me how to force the machine to boot into the OSX startup folder? I am running one 30gb drive with no partitions and one OS9 and one OSX system folder. I am stuck and in a loop and need help!

Thanks K

Try holding down the X key on startup.

Hold the option key down while the system restarts. You will get prompted with several "buttons". Select the OS X volume and press the continue button. Once back to your OS X system, go to startup disk control panel and re-select the OS X disk as your start-up.

This should probably be posted in Mac OS X forum. Have you tried searching there?

I think holding down "x" while booting up will do it, though I could be wrong. Haven't needed to force boot in X since that's my default.

Have you tried booting of the CD yet? Maybe your hard drive is hosed. If you can boot from the CD you can open disk utility and run First Aid.

yes, I am double posting to MACOS in desperation to get more eyes on the problem. I have tried holding the "x" on startup to no avail. I do have my OSx.2 (Jag) CD, but I cannot find a way to get to the preferences folder.

I will try holding down the option key, but if I remember correctly this only works on machines with multiple partitions.

Anyone have any pearls of wisdom?
