no this is not some new mathematical theorum.

I have decided to simplify my life and keep business and leisure separate.

First i bought 700 iBook and became enthusiastic switcher. so much that i bought a 1Ghz TiBook for work (with Virtual PC installed). After 3 months, I have concluded that i love the iBook for home use (iPod syncing, wireless broadband, pix, games etc.). The size is a tremendous asset to me and it's seems adequately powerful. The TiBook on the other hand has been a pain for using in a Windows work environment (synching files with work PC, using windows-only programs, getting IT support, etc).

So my "solution" is to sell both! Then use the proceeds plus some more to buy a new 12"PB (rev. b, i hope soon). This machine will still be my play machine...and except for more heat, should excel the iBook in all ways. I will also get the new IBM T40 Thinkpad (1.6 Ghz Centrino chipset, 512 MB ram, 64 ATI 9000, 14" screen, 4.9 lbs., 5hr battery) for use in business.

Still a happy switcher!

Nothing wrong with that! Use the right tool for the job, that's what I say. Let's face it: it's a Windows world out there, especially in business. VPC is one solution, but nowhere near as good as actually having a Windows laptop, and the T40 looks like a sweet piece of kit. I keep a ThinkPad A22m (running Win XP) for the stuff that just needs Windows. But 90% of the time on one of my Macs.

The other thing I like the ThinkPad for is fooling around with BeOS.

Yeah, the T40 might just be the best laptop currently out. Pity you cannot run OSX on it together with WinXP.

I totally agree with your logic; I too just sold my original plan for something a tad different. I had a 17" PB, but realized it was a bit big to be carrying to classes at college, so I sold it and purchased a Shuttle XPC custom-built PC for my dorm and a 12" AlBook for carrying to classes.

Sorry, I don't know what you mean. Are you having a hard time understanding that Windows has more software support than Apple?

If you want examples, I personaly miss the the sensational Avisynth for encoding DivX, Discomix for mixing MP3's and some others.

If only OSX run on Intel Hardware but keeping the Apple designs.

in my case a proprietary stock trading platform is not designed for Mac, although it is web-based.

i need to start up VPC (win2K), which as you know is sloooowww, then Explorer as my web browser.

also, i have not been able to seamlessly sync my Clie (using palm os4) with Outlook on my work PC and Entourage(X) on my TiBook.

on the other hand...right now i am typing this post on my iBook with my airport connectly perfectly to my linksys wifi LAN....while listening to Annie Lennox, downloaded from Apples iTune store. I just hope i will like my 12"PB as much as my iBook.

yes..Mac rules. the thinkpad is a heartless,soul-less tool...hopefully best in class. the Macs are downright fun and personal.

Dude you are bogus and make me sick:

your text: The TiBook on the other hand has been a pain for using in a Windows work environment (synching files with work PC, using windows-only programs, getting IT support, etc).

1. You bitch and moan about you cant integrate with IT. <B>Why doesnt your company provide you a PC?</B> Why must you insist that you use your tibook as your work computer?

2. What do you actually do that you cant do with your tibook?

3. Why dont you set up a folder called "Download_files" on a server and ftp to the server from your mac. These are the commands:

1. ftp <server name>
2. login
3. cd Download_files
4. bin (makes sure it useing binary transfer)
5. mget *
mput * for sending files

4. If you cant do that, buy a plug in USB mem card and copy files
that way or get a CD-RW drive for the PC and burn the file to
CD and insert CD into mac

5. You bitch about you need to use IE, whats wrong with Apple IE?
6. Why cant you drag and drop files from VPC to mac folders? vice
versa?

7. toss that Clie and get a pocket pc pda if you
can sych with VPC.

Sorry to be such a a-hole, but people that buy thousands of dollars
worth of computers and cant run them piss me off. If you want to
start bringing your own sit into the office, you have to be smart
enough to be able to use it.

This is turning into an interesting Saturday night thread.

Between watching this and Punk'd I'm in an interesting zone.
