I have a PowerBook G4 (gigabit ethernet) and I want to buy a larger internal hard drive for it. What's the interface that I should be looking for when buying a hard drive? Thanks.

A standard 2.5" IDE laptop hard drive. I'm sure this is described, as well as the replacement procedure, in your manual or at Apple support on line.

Also, what's the real world performance difference between the rpms of hard drives? Is 4,200rpm that much slower than 5,400rpm?

It depends on the density of the drive--some 4200rpm frives outperform some 5400rpm ones. You need to check Bare Feats and other sources, read the white papers, etc.
