of course this had to happen. getting ready to sell my barely used TiBook and I drop my RacerX bag from my shoulder onto the bag corner.

despite the well-padded interior sleeve, i have a dent on back right fan vent. the vent also has a horizontal crack visible but not loose or anything. anyhow...after testing, shaking, having fan operate, etc...i am convinced this is cosmetic damage "only"

here's why i'm extra mad: i plan to sell this machine very soon (for reasons, see my other post on ThinkPad) For my own use, I would just leave it alone and live with it.

My questions are:
1. does my AppleCare cover this sort of thing. it does not look like a trivial fix, if i need to pay. (I would guess that the entire lower casing needs to replaced as it is one piece.)
2. how badly do you think resale value will go down if left unfixed?

what would you guys do??? crap!

post a pic.

If it's the side of the base of the machine, it's expensive. If it's the bottom panel that you remove to put in an Airport card, it's less so.

In either case, no AppleCare is unlikely to cover this. It falls under 'abuse.' - Dropping TiBooks wasn't a part of the design specification.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

"Dropping TiBooks wasn't a part of the design specification." DOH!!

yes, part of the dent is the thin skin on the bottom (easy part, i guess). but also the "inside of the sandwich" which contains the actual vent also is dented ever so slightly on the top, with an associated paint crack that i now see, as well as the aforementioned hairline crack on the vent fins.

Will list it on eBay i guess, but with super-sized photo of that area so there is no misrepresentation. I have 2 other nearly exact ones on my watch list....and they go for very good prices ($2300-$2400, which i'm happily amazed at). so even if i take a $200 haircut for my clumsiness, still not too bad.
