Do you think we'll ever see one?

I'm at a point now where I don't really need more cpu horsepower - current ibook specs would do just with a 15.2 widescreen. The only thing I crave is more desktop real-estate

If I was a bettin man I would say no, Apple has repeatedly stated that the iBook is a entry level consumer computer. Plus I'm sure they wouldn't want it to cannabilize there powerbook sales, but who knows...

I doubt it. Widescreens seem like more of a "pro feature," so I see them remaining (for now, at least) in the Powerbook line only.
The 12" Powerbook and iBook are pretty similar. If the iBook got a bigger widescreen, I think it would totally cannibalize the PB's sales.

Nope, else it would infringe upon PB sales; any manufacturing company has to maintain a distinction between product lines. If you want more screen then spend the extra - or you could try using an external monitor, I know it won't increase resolution but it will give you a larger screen (I used a 17" CRT with my iBook).

I think it would have made sens for Apple to make the 12" PowerBook wide screen. This would have made the whole PowerBook line wide screen for pro, and stick with standard screen size for iBooks.... Just wondering why they did not do it....

That actually looks pretty awesome. However, methinks that's what the 12" PB should be (widescreen, speakers on the sides of the keyboard, etc) like you said earlier.

Yes, that actually does look nifty. I don't like the PB style speakers, though...

'tis true - I would have to agree that a wide screen iBook would no doubt compete with the PBs. However I thought the same distiction between the 12 inch powerbook & current ibook might be drawn (as unclear as it may be).

One never can tell with Apple what's around the corner but at the very least by posting in threads like these it makes it known there is a demand.

For the record I am recreational Mac user - mainly web browsing, dukebox and basic calendar / office tasks. If I could get a wide screen at about £1000 ($1300 us? ) I'd snap it up. CPU isn't a problem I manage fine at the moment with 366mhz - it's just hard living with 800x600 resolution
