today, i took my 1ghz 15" powerbook to a friend who has bought one of the new ipods (a 10 GB one). i wanted to upload some music from my collection to his new treasure... so we connected the ipod to the firewire port of the powerbook and transferred some music - all went well, but: now i can't unplug the firewire cable. yeah, this might sound ridiculous, but that thing just doesn't want to come out. we've used force of course, but no violence... but no, that cable sticks in there as if it were glued. what's the matter? we certainly didn't plug it into the wrong port, and it went IN really smoothly - it just doesn't want to come out again.
HEEELP!

hi there, that seemed to be the problem when I connect my sony minidv camera via firewire to my pismo pb. it goes in smoothly but it doesn't seem to like disconnecting..lol..but if you pull it with the proper force, it will come out.

well, what is the proper force? because we already pulled so hard that the white cap of the cable came off... the plug itself didn't move a bit. dang, if that's normal, i'll never ever use a firewire device again.

My Sony DV cam does get stuck sometimes but not as bad as what you're describing. I'd wrap the cable in some fabric and take a pair of pliers to it to jiggle it out - gently. And, I hasten to add, at your own risk.
Don't blame me if it all goes wrong

Tyrion, sorry to hear that. if still no luck after using pliers, seems like either the port is too tight or the cable is millimeters too thick. I guess you may want to ask Apple when you get your PB back what problem was it. Again, my firwire stays pretty tight in the port, but it does come out. I think it should be as easy as pulling out a USB cable, but I guess it's not. I too use an Apple brand cable. (the camera side comes out smoothly)
Is the turn-around time really 3 weeks over there? ouch...

In Europe, if you are lucky enough to have your home around Holland or Germany, hardware repairs take about 15 work days (so about three weeks in total). I don't know how is for other countries.

Sorry to hear about this. Make sure you post this information at the "Powerbook Repair Experiences? Post Here" thread below.
That's an odd problem -- one that I've never heard of before.
