hi,
after purchasing my PB12, I got hooked on the ease and stability on Mac OS, so I bought another Blueberry iBook from auction site. The machine only has 98MB Ram, and I like to upgrade the Ram. Does anyone know the specs of the Ram. Also, the current 3GB HD seems a bit small, but is enough for my little daughter to browse the net. Is it possible to replace that also with a larger drive? Thanks for your feedback!

The iBook has 32MB RAM builtin. It has one free RAM slot that can take a 256MB RAM module (requires the most recent firmware. Search around www.apple.com/support ). It sounds like you already have a 64MB module in that slot, so you would have to remove it to do the upgrade. Check www.ramseeker.com or www.dealram.com for best prices. The RAM is an easy upgrade. The instructions are in the iBook's manual as well as Apple's Support Page.
The HD is another story. It is a pretty difficult procedure, especially if you're not experienced with these sorts of things. It basically requires that you completely disassemble the computer (and correctly reassemble it, of course! ).
See http://caslis.com/mac/ibook/ibdrive.html for instructions.

Actually you may be able to use 512MB of RAM in there. I built a blueberry clamshell from parts for my GF. I started with a G3 300 board, OC'd it to 400 and it still worked fine with a 512MB SODIMM.
Most PC100 SODIMMs will work fine. I've had great luck with laptop RAM from www.coastmemory.com. YMMV
The HD can definitely be upgraded as well. IIRC 12mm is the max drive height.
It's a job and a half to do, as it's very tedious. You must essentially take the iBook entirely apart to get to the HD. It may be worth the wait to see how much your daughter uses or needs the storage.
cheers

What OS are you running on it? I hope it's OS 9, in which case you're not going to really need more than 256MB of ram. If it's for your daughter to browse the internet, word, chat, and email OS 9 and a total of 388MB is plenty. OS X is a little much for that 300Mhz processor and 66Mhz system bus IMHO. But, it can still be a very useful machine. And I would agree with waiting to see if she needs a larger HD. Of course now that I think of it, if you is going to load all of her songs on it it might have to go, hmm. Well, I would not put too much money into it if it were me.

I recently overclocked my Rev A Blueberry iBook to 400 mhz. it runs OS X decently with 192 megs of ram. in the next few days im getting a stick of 256 which ill through in there. I've seen a few Hard Drives that are compatible with the iBook online on Ebay. I also will have no use for the 128 megs of ram that im replacing, so if you want to buy it from me you may, i'll give you a good deal. Hope some of this helps.
