I've started a handful of threads about my new-to-me 500 MHz Pismo PowerBook lately. If it was someone else starting all those threads, I might be silently annoyed. From now on, I'll consolidate my questions here. I'm sure there are a lot of switchers with 12" PBs who might find some value here, too. Thanks in advance to people in this forum, who've been hella good in helping me out!

My first question in this thread is modem-related.

1.) My G4 iMac only connects at 28800 or so using dial-up, my only Internet connection. This Pismo I've had all of three days connects at 48800 or 56000. At first I thought it may be a reporting difference. That the Pismo just thinks it's connected at a better speed. Not true. It is noticeably and appreciably faster. Sweet! No complaints, but what can I do to make the iMac connect this fast, too? All this time, I thought it was a problem with my phone line. It's obviously not. Settings on both machines are exactly the same.

I just checked my connection speed with menumeters, it says 45.3, also using dial-up and a pismo.
The speed sucks

Well, the first thing you check is what modem script are you using.

Assuming your using OSX, go to system preferences:network:internal modem:modem and see what modem script is selected.

It should be a variant of Apple Internal Modem 56K (v90/v92)

I don't remember the details of it and am at work now, but I altered my iMac's "Network" preferences to match those of the Pismo and now it connects at a more respectable rate.

I didn't update this thread, because it received so little interest, I didn't think anyone cared.
