As the subject states... myself and my brother, both owners of PB17s, have this "problem" (calling it a problem may be too harsh a word, minor inconvenience may be more like it). My first occurance happened as such:

I put my powerbook to sleep last night... and i noticed I left my digital camera plugged in, but the the camera power was still on, but the camera was ina standby state. So I turned the dial to the off position. And as I expected, the Powerbook woke up. the issue is this, when I lift the lid with the hopes of just closing it again to sleep it, the monitor never "woke up" but the PB was certianly awake. I tried closing the lid to resleep it, nothing. I tried hitting keys, F-keys, moving the mousing, and nada. I hit the shutdown button, nothing, hit it again, and it restarted, and then it boot up normally.. I put my baby back to sleep and went to bed.

My brother experienced this when unplugging a mouse from the sleeping PB.

So is this a jaguar glitch? A bad combination of operations on our part? Or nothing to fear, it is all clear. In the end, I just figured it wasn't a big deal, more a minor inconvenience than a problem, but I wonder now if i should avoid such things in the future.

I've had that problem exactly twice out of probably at least 300 or so sleep cycles (at least 5 times a day, for 2 months.) Strangely, both times were in the same room, with nothing plugged into the laptop, no power, or accessories. The configuration of that laptop can't be a significant factor as that is how I normally carry it around..

I laughed it off as mysterious electric fields but it is kinda odd.

When you turned the camera off and PB came back on, you should have just let it alone. Sometimes it takes a few seconds for the machine to go wake up then go back to sleep with the lid closed. Either that or you have an external display or keyboard you didn't mention that is putting the machine in closed lid mode instead of going back to sleep.

I would say so. Prior to 10.2 a lot of us found our PowerBooks did not wake from sleep properly, and under NORMAL circumstances of just opening the lid - the machine would awake, but screen would be dead. Only a cold boot would get you going again.

Jaguar fixed this. But, given virtually any peripheral can cause your machine to wake for the most trivial of reasons, it wouldn't suprise me if there were still some quirky combinations that could cause this weird situation to show its ugly head again...

If that's the case, you may be going into closed lid mode without an external display attached. Try disconnecting the keyboard and see if the same thing happens.

Either that or the camera is being "read" as an external monitor when it is shut down. This type of problem was very popular a while back. Wife's classroom G3's freeze up if a peripheral (USB disk drive) is unplugged during sleep mode. Sounds like you fond the "odd" combination that does the same in Jaguar.
