Hey all,

I'm having a problem w/ the TiBook... it seems that quite a few (2 out of 5) of the DVD's I've burned the last couple of days have failed. It's always the same error:

"Target device error..."

I don't have the code, as I didn't write it down. This happens at seemingly random intervals on a DVD I'm burning from an image I made myself (i.e. I know the disc image is completely valid).

So, any thoughts as to what might be causing this? I'm using fairly cheap DVD-R media (Imation), but I can't imagine it would fail that often... are DVD's just picky? Also, there's a chance at least one of the times I picked up my machine and moved it across the room while it was burning.... the error happened a little while after, though I was VERY careful to be slow/steady w/ my movements.

Thanks,
Alex

When I use cheap media, it will fail more often than not. Dunno about Imation though.

So, does anyone have any recommendations for decent-quality media with a lower failure rate that doesn't cost a fortune?

What really pisses me off is that I bought these discs at Worst Buy for $4/piece ($20 for the 5 pack)... Maybe I should write to Imation and get my $8 back; if only I had the reciept.

So far, I've had good success with TDK 2x media and my 12" PowerBook's SuperDrive: 5 successful long burns (~4 GB per burn) out of 5 attempts. You can get a 15-pack for $40 at Circuit City (a little cheaper online).

By contrast, the Apple-branded discs I bought in February have been failing consistently on burns of more than about 3 GB. I suspect it's just a bad batch; they had apparently been on the shelf for some time because neither the discs nor the packaging were marked with a speed. However, the Apple Store's unwillingness to exchange the unburned discs for newer ones put me off buying any more. I've designated those discs for use on shorter burns.
