Apple agreed today to replace my iBook outright rather then make me send it in for repairs again.
The upside was that they gave me the new 900mhz model. The downside was I had to drive to the closest Apple store in Arlington which is 100 miles away in order to pick it up. They also free of charge transferred all my files over and reinstalled my ram upgrade and Airport Card.
Maybe its just me but I am noticing a speed increase even though its only 100mhz more and its got DDR VIdeo ram now.
My only gripe about this was that one of the tech's I spoke with today tried to tell me that the problem with my old iBook was it was a software issue and would need to go in for an examination. I got kinda pissed at him and told him outright "I don't want to sound arrogant or anything because you obviously know your job better then I ever would so don't take this the wrong way, but when its showing the EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS that its showed the other two times the motherboard died, I think I'm able to recognize to say that its a hardware issue. I'm not a complete newbie computer using idiot."
Anyway, I'm quite happy with this and hope that I have better luck with this machine then I did with the old one. It onlt really needs to last me another month or so until the new Powerbooks come out and I can get a 15inch model.

Oops. Meant to say the Video Ram is DDR not the regular memory. I'll go correct it.
And you don't need to be a smartass about it.

Hey my iBook has been twice to Apple for repairs although for different problems (screen freeze and autoshut down on disconnet from ac). However both times they have changed the motherboard. The second time I sent it back only 50% of the problem was solved. Should I demand to get a new labtop? I can't bring myself to take advantage of Apple in this way!

Seriously though the problem is pissing me off because I've lost hours of data on it. I will be taking it back to Apple on Monday, when I go visit my local store to see Job's keynote address. I doubt they would voluntarily replace my iBook and what's to say I wouldn't get a refurbished 700 mhz? What I would really like is that 800 mhz with the 32 meg video card!

I wouldn't go so far as to say that its taking advantage of Apple. I paid good money for a machine that I expected to be reliable. It turned out to be a lemon and Apple was good enough to take responsibility for it and replace it.
If it dies again, call them up and see what they will do. The worst they can do is say No. I was a bit worried myself that they would try to give me a refurbished machine. I wouldn't have settled for this though. I had bad experiances with my old laptop, a Sony Vaio, that I bought as a refurb unit and I no longer trust them any farther then you can throw them.
Give it a shot though. I was nice but forceful in explaining to them that I absolutely must have my iBook for school and general use so being without it isn't an option...particulary with the condensed summer session I'm in right now.
