Hi

I've noticed that when I access encrypted web pages (https) with safari that my powerbook starts to make a high pitch squealing type noise. The noise seems to come from the left hand side of the powerbook. Is this normal, and does anybody know what causes it?

Also, I've noticed that https pages load twice in safari as well. Is that normal too, or a bug?

Thanks

Tel

i have the same experience on my 15", and it looks to be a problem with Safari... the noise is actually quite irritating. same with the double loading, i guess it's got something to do with the way safari renders the page... you also loose the text you type in a page the second time it loads (argh!)

a well, it's a beta right?

Yeah, I thought it might be the ethernet card. I reckon there must be hardware for encrypting and decrypting pages. The noise is kinda annoying though.

Then how come it only happens in Safari and not IE or even Mozilla or Camino? I love Safari and wish I could use it 100% of the time but I avoid accessing my bank or making a secure purchase with it.

I am on Airport (I've never even used the ethernet port on my 17" before) and I get the exact same sound.

It honestly drives me nuts. I don't have a problem with the sizzle, the fan, the blower, or any of the other noises this thing emits but the Safari screeching noise is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I'd agree with you except it happens on my TiBook when I'm using Airport, ethernet isn't even connected to anything or active for that matter.

It does seem to be fairly specific to https requests though... STRANGE.

It depends of the functions the apps use. For example, I get with Konfabulatir widgets who connect to the net or Software Update.
