I just bought a new 12' powerbook, as well as a 512 DDR Chip. After i installed the chip, applications are quitting on me. BUt this problem is not occuring all the time. Is this really a problem with the ram chip?

If it wasn't happening before, and it's happening now (but seemingly at random)... then I'd say it's a pretty safe bet you got yourself some bad RAM.

Easy test:

Take the 512 out... see if you still have the problem. If you don't, return the thing and get a new one! If you do, I'd call Apple.

ditto...I got some bad ram from OWC (macsales.com-board labeled pc100 but they claimed it was pc133). I took it out and everything was back to normal. Where did you get your ram?
