hi there. my sister's 12" powerbook just started freaking out on boot up. if you start the machine, right after the screen changes from being black (unlit) but before it would *normally* go to the apple boot up screen and eventually to login it stops for about 1 minutes and flashes a square button like icon that has the networking image on it (the one of the little globe). it does this for literally about 10 mintues or so. after the looooooong delay, it goes through the normal boot up screen and then to the login. she logs in and all works fine.

anyone seen this or know how to fix it?

It sounds like the computer is configured for net boot??
Try to change the startup disk. Open system preferences and then select startup disk and make sure you have selected the drive on the computer (probably called Macintosh HD).

wow, you were right. i totally didn't think of that. now if she only learns not to push all the buttons... thanks!
