I got prices from 2 different Mac vendors for some equipment and they are very close in price except for the RAM.

The Ram is for the 17 In. PowerBook. Both vendors are quoting different makes of RAM. One price is $399 (CND) and the other is $199 (CND).

Can someone give me an opinion on the two RAM manufacturers? Here's what I was quoted:

$199 was for:
SHIKATRONICS 512MB PC2700 DDR 200PIN APPLE PB 17IN

$399 was for:
Kingston 512MB PC2700 SO-DIMM Module (for 17" PB)

I bought a 12' powerbook last weekend, and i got a 512 shikatronics chip, when i installed it, it crash every application that i opened and used, so my advice would be avoid shikatronics, i think there is a reason why the price is so low.

I appreciate the feedback on the RAM. I think the dealer will gaurantee the RAM. I'll take a chance on it and let you know what the results are.

Well things changed a little, I'm not going to be able to report on the RAM as noted above because the vendor decided my apprehensions about the RAM needed to be taken care of. They are selling me the Kingston memory for $215.00.

I went for it.

Of course it's up to you, but I'm not sure I understand why you wanted to pay over twice what you could have paid for a 512 DDR chip for your 17" that has a lifetime guarantee from a number of legit places. (See above posts).
