For some reason my Pismo keeps crashing everytime I take out the right battery and put in my DVD-ROM drive. It never did this before, but I can't pinpoint when it actually started, because I usually have the second battery in and just use my external cd-r for cd stuff. I'm running 10.2.6. Has anyone else had the same or a similar problem?

If I hot-swap in the DVD-ROM with a disc in it, the disc won't mount and the Finder will freeze completely. I think it started with one of the earlier 10.2.x and continues with 10.2.6.

10.2 has serious problems with hot-plugging PC Card and the media bays (which are very closely related to the PC Card sockets).

This suddenly broke with 10.2.6. I use a PC Card Memory stick reader, a zip drive in the expansion bay, the DVD-ROM and an extra battery. Plugging in or unplugging anything other than a battery is a guaranteed instant freeze.
Pismo/768K RAM/OSX 10.2.6
Wish they would fix this, it's a pain!

Damn. Well, hopefully, we'll get a new version of OS X on Monday that'll fix this.

Everything now freezes when swapped either out of or into the expansion bay -- VST Zip, hard drive, LS-120; Apple CD-ROM; MCE expansion bay cases, all freeze the Pismo except for the cursor right away, and the cursor dies within a minute or so thereafter.
Cycling with the 10-second-hold on the power button, followed by fsck, followed by redoing permissions, seems advisable --everything gets hosed when this happens.
But it sure is a pretty computer, even if it doesn't work right yet.

It's not the computer's fault -- hot swapping worked impeccably under OS 9. We need to bug Apple to fix this.
