Hi everyone!
I've just switched...I got tired of constantly having my temper tested by Windows XP and lusting after my friend's Macs, so I went and took advantage of Apple's education "Buy a Bundle, Save a Bundle" deal and got myself a 12inch Superdrive Powerbook and an iPod. I was going to wait for the new 15 inch PBs, but the price drop on the 12 inches were too good to pass up.
Anyway, I'm largely happy with my new purchases, except for one minor detail, that just happens to be driving me insane...my trackpad button sticks out! In all the pictures I've seen, the trackpad button is flush with the palm surface. I vaguely remember reading a forum post discussing this somewhere, and how one person got it fixed under warranty...I'm not sure if the circumstances were the same. I'm just wondering...is my trackpad button supposed to be like this? It doesn't really affect how it works, except that it doesn't feel as solid when being clicked as my friend's iBook.
Anyway, thanks for reading my long winded post...
Alex

My 17" Powerbook's trackpad button sticks out, if that's any consolation.

It sticks out on my 12". You get used to it. Also, a good 2-button wireless mouse is nice...

The button sticking out is pretty normal. I think the thread you are referring to was one person's button was crooked. Meaning one side was sticking up quite more considerably than the other. Sounded like the button was bent during manufacture.
Also, my button sticks up a mm or so too.

I'm pretty sure they're meant to. Never heard of any being flush. If it were flush, I wouldn't be able to find it quite so easily without looking, methinks...

Your 15" isn't an AlBook. I'd expect different cases to have different aesthetics, no?

I'm a switcher too, my track-button sticks out about 1/2 mm too, like it that way, damn the 1 button mouse though! Ctrl-click? and ctrl is only on the left side of the keyboard...

Grab a copy of uControl from versiontracker and remap your right hand enter key to ctrl or something.

I have had a similar response to the button on my 12"--I really thought that it was sticking out too much. I went to my on campus apple tech (actually two of them) and both told me that this was part of the design of the model. Although I didn't like it much at first I am kind of getting used to the raised button.

Amen to the nice wireless mouse.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Logitech MX700...
It has EXCELLENT response (even playing games like MOHAA and Warcraft3)... it's RECHARGEABLE - I can't stress enough how important this is... my dad's wireless Intellimouse eats batteries like it's going out of style...
And one final thing that makes it perfect for your new PowerBook... you don't have to plug it in to the wall to USE it, only to CHARGE it. I wondered about this before I bought it, because having to find a power outlet just to use my mouse kind of goes against the portability of the PB in the first place.
I personally only use my trackpad when I have to. I'm not particularly fond of them (though they're FAR superior to those nast eraserhead pointers... whoever thought up that idea deserves a good swift kick in the head) and I like having the scroll wheel
