Just got off the phone with AppleCare Japan for a problem with my Ti550 which has died for the 4th time, and I was pleasently surprised that they offered to replace the case which has a severe flaking problem. The last time I talked to them in February they wanted to charge me 30,000yen to do it. So if you're in Japan and under AppleCare, get your new case! On the other hand, they claim feeling electricity through the case when charging is normal and wont replace the power supply under warranty.

Died for the 4th time?!
The replacement case may be a Customer Service 'bribe' rather than something for everyone, as you really IMHO should be asking for a whole new machine...

This vanished completely for me with my TiSD having been present on both my 400 and 550MHz machines.
I'm almost certain that it was the grounding ring on the power adapter -> power cord connection that fixed it. Makes sense, too, since it's then no longer the Ti case (and you!) acting as the ground.
Maybe you could try plugging your Ti into a store adapter (after making sure it's a new one) when you get it back. If that fixes it then you could at least fix it for whatever the adapter costs.

I have asked for a new machine, but in their mind, since it doesn't fail within 90 days of their repair, it's considered fixed. The machine has died every 4-6 months though, always the motherboard going out.
About the case though, the engineer specifically said their warranty policy had changed towards the flaking problem, so I just wanted to get the word out to anyone else who can take advantage of the change.

K Cool. I guess the replacement scenario must just be a UK thing...
We get a 1 year hardware warranty as standard, as per our consumer protection legislation. If your mac goes down 3 times in that period you can have a new one direct from Apple...
Cool news about the paint though... I hope they have a big supply of cases!
Peace,
Marc
