I know this probably is not big news anymore but my 17" beauty of a powerbook is shipping out tommorow on its way to my house. I am so excited so i thought i would tell you guys. Anyhow i already ordered 512 ram and a SpireUSA case (does it come with a sleeve anyone?). To all you already own a pb17 people are there any other "Musthaves" for me to order before this beast arrives? Also what games run the best at the native resolution? I already own warcraft III so give me some other options. Also any protective gear for my pb, since its like 3500.00, advice is welcome too. This is not my first mac, actually my 4th but i am overly excited for good reason i hope. Im sure i will have more questions once it arrives but all thoughts and advice is appreciated! Thanks

One last thing i am looking for from you fellow 17" owners is some links to your favorite "widescreen" backgrounds that really take advantage of our native resolution. I know you can stretch any wallpaper to make it fit but i would like something that is made for our view!!

Welcome to the MacNN boards & CONGRATS on your new Mac!

First off, head over to www.macdesktops.com for lotsa desktops at the native 1440x900 resolution. Also, the only 3D game I got to run nicely at it's native res. was Quake III Gold; all others (SoF II, RtCW, etc.) hadta be played at 1024x728 to be playable, however it still looked great.

I'd pick up a Griffin iCurve + an external keyboard/mouse if you plan on using it any as a desktop machine...makes life a lot easier. The Logitech MX500 (or MX700 if you dig wireless) mice are amazing. You may also want to consider a screen protector from www.radtech.us to protect your LCD from potential keyboard marks.

Enjoy!

My logitech wireless mouse is a must have for me. You can check ou the 800 firewire 7200 RPM drives at transintl.com; my 120 GIG HD works great. Let's see...I loved Giants, Citizen Kabuto, Ottomattic, Max Payne, Warbirds III and Starwars Jedi Knight Outcast is another absolute must have. Nascar 2003 is comming and will go real nice with a Momo race steering wheel with force feedback. Save those rental DVD movies to the hard drive, internal or external with DVDBackup before taking that long trip. Got your portable external speakers yet for those DVD movies? I could go on and on. You should be really excited; You are getting one incredible machine and from what I hear the G5 Powerbooks have a long way to get here anytime soon. So be happy. Even if the 15" Aluminum came out tomorrow with a 1.25 Ghz CPU I would have no regrets whatsoever. The luxurious 17" screen says it all.

Try here: http://deviantArt.com

OK, so they are not widescreen (at least most are not), but some come in pretty high resolutions that you scale them down.

Here are a couple links to my current favorites (There are lots more):

I have not seen the movie and not a Matrix freak. I just like the pictures.

Have you tried Ghost Recon: Desert Seige yet? I'm playing it @ native (1280x854) res on my Ti... runs pretty well actually. Haven't tried multiplayer, I imagine I'd crank it down for that, but native rez @ medium detail seems to run fine.

ABSOLUTELY...let's have a Mac version of all Bond games! I have to keep a PC around in addition to my PB to play some games not available on Macs. (e.g. Delta Force series...)

Welcome to the 17" fold! It's an awesome machine, you're going to flip when you take it out of the box and start playing with it...

Here's a good thread to peak at ...
