Less than 2 years ago, I bought an icebook, my first laptop. About a week or so ago, my battery suddenly died on me. I took it to the Apple Store at Woodfield mall, but they pretty much just confirmed my daignosis. I was at first wondering if there was a way to resurrect it ($129 for a new one!), but I finally just broke down and bought a new battery. And boy am I impressed! I can compile code and debug for a good five hours or more if I put the lcd screen brightness to 50%; I use to only get about two hours, maybe less.
My question is - is there anything useful to do with my battery? I don't think it's "safe" or enviromentally friendly to throw it away.
Just curious,
Matt Fahrenbacher

You know what I would do?
When you use the iBook as a desktop (in other words, it's plugged in all the time), use the dead batter instead of the working battery... supposedly, when you have a laptop plugged in for long periods of time, you're supposed to take the battery out, but that would obviously leave a big ugly hole and one missing "rubber foot", so it would work well to just use the dead battery.

this is a really good idea - the reason most people's batteries die is just that - leaving them in when the machine's plugged in all the time.

Och.. If you are like me you never turn off your ibook. So it's actually good to use it on the go regulary????
Oh boy, I can't wait until I get my new airport card and the battery from Apple store anytime this week.

Depending on how dead the battery it is, it's possible it won't allow you to boot the computer with the power chord connected. I believe the ibook is one of those comps that just won't work without a working battery present.
