Start your terminal and type "uptime" and then press return. Let's see who's got the uptime record with their powerbook! I'm at 3 days, 3:37. That's probably nothing compared to what some other people have.

Once, on my iBook, I reached 67 days uptime. But then I had to reboot for a software update...

I havent approached that amount of time again because I no longer care and find that I am rebooting into OS 9 more often.

Yeah, my uptime gets reset every 60-70 days or so. Either because of a new 10.2 version or a security update. So no big uptime for me

Ack! Why does it say 2 users when there's only me (and my one user account) on this machine?

up 7 days, 15:05, 2 users, load averages: 0.12, 0.21, 0.24

Could it be that my file sharing last night with my bud who connected to server last night is counted as this second user? I hope so since this is making me paranoid...

Ok.. I cheated... thats not a mac... have another box that's at about 540, but the uptime counter rolls over at 497.

Anyways, my 12" pb is:

3:43PM up 8 days, 23 mins, 2 users, load averages: 0.39, 0.35, 0.16

Can anyone explain what the load averages mean?

Mine is:

11:26PM up 10 days, 7:03, 1 user, load averages: 0.15, 0.20, 0.17

from uptime manual: 'man uptime' at terminal:

The uptime utility displays the current time, the length of time the sys-
tem has been up, the number of users, and the load average of the system
over the last 1, 5, and 15 minutes.

so would that mean that if you have more apps open and stuff that you'll have higher uptime averages than if you had no apps open during those time frames

I don't really care about this as occasionally, Software Update comes along and requires a restart. What I do appreciate is the fact that I can work for days, simply walking away or closing the lid of my 17" at the end of a work session. No more waiting for start-up and arranging documents each time.
This is in sharp contrast to my old G3 running 9.2 - I used to count myself lucky to have a half-day without a spectacular crash.

Incidentally, the buggiest thing about my 17" is the Microsoft software.

Mmmm, yeah, somehow I think that those numbers might just be fudged, since I don't think OS X (with Aqua!) was out 32 years ago...
