so im sitting thre minding my own business, surfing the web, all of the sudden,the image on my screen just goes out, and i just see a bunch of lines, verticle lines, in idfferent colors. i restarted, and same problem... i hooked it up to an external monitor and that works fine. .. but my screen on the ibook is just a bunch of verticle lines now.what make thing worse is im traveling in a week, and i need my ibook with me.... AHH>. waht do i do?!

Sounds like the problem I had a few months ago. That led to a complete swap out of my motherboard. So like Placid Casual said, call Apple quickly (or take it to an Apple Store if there's one near you)...

Could be the vid card/VRAM... could be the TFT cables.

There is a common problem that has symptoms similar to those you describe that is caused by a short in the wiring to the display. The wires have to pass through the hinge and, over time the insulation wears through.
First thing I would do is call Apple, if your computer is still under warranty.
