Sorry, couldnt help it. Although there is about 95% chance I am right. Each time I have bought a new Apple, Steve and Co have updated the lines within weeks, sometimes even days.
My 400TiBk finally ran out of juice and needed to be replaced and couldnt wait till end of year like originally planned. So off to CompUSA I went and picked up brand new 12" combo. Decided to put the extra $200 from the SD towards AppleCare since I dont need an SD nor will my wife, who will inherit this unit later.
This thing is GREAT. I thought that I would miss the big screen, but it hasnt been an issue as of yet. Its considerably faster than my 400 was and tansferring the data between computers wast that big a deal. So far heat hasnt been that much of an issue. Last night while recharging and installing a bunch of software the left palm rest got a bit toasty, where I presume the HD sits. So far this morning the same palm rest has a slight warmth to it, but not uncomfortable. The Keyboard on this is wonderful; great feel and response, even for bad typist me.
So those who have been holding out for the update can thank me later. Those who have been waiting on buying a 12" for whatever reason, you will love it. Ive only had it for a few days and am madly in love with it.

I've just sold my 12" PB, as to have it and the a new dual G5 would probably have been decadent considering my computing needs these days!
However, I really, really miss it To me, the sign of a good machine...
So many times I have sold and never given it a second thought, but this time, I am in mourning, even with the new machine on the horizon.
They are indeed sweet machines... enjoy it!

ah the sad tale of a machine getting phased out right after you buy it...
We're getting pretty close to the 8th month mark on the Powerbook 12 and 17" and the 15" has been long overdue at close to 10 months. I know something is on its way, but I hope it'll be all set in stone in time for the busy school buying season.

Umm, not sure how you count months. I've counted exactly six since the 12" and 17" were introduced and about eight since the 15" was updated. Never the less, it would seem that they all are about due for an update.

The PB 17 did not ship in any numbers until late Mar, so not quite as old as the 12" which shipped in Jan.

Speed bumped G4's DO own me, I have a P3 500 desktop running Win2k, and I am desperatley lusting after a 12" powerbook. I am trying to hold off for an update until the end of August when school starts, but I don't know if I have the willpower.

I'm glad to know that there are others out there with me, stuck in a PC world because they are too afraid to buy a G4 867 that every one says may get updated in a few days/weeks. We should start a support group!

Well, MWNY (or whatever it's called nowadays) is next week. So, if there's nothing new tomorrow (7/8), I hope to see an update then. I've got the 1click all setup at the Apple Store waiting for me...

You can count me in too!!! It sort of bugs me, that when I do get a G4 867, that I won't be upgrading *that* much, it would be just 267 MHz. I know that *upgrading* from Windows to OSX says it all, but still, it's not even 1 GHz!!!
Besides, I'm not really comfortable buying a Rev. A laptop.

Heh. Personally on a PIII 850 laptop now that I want to replace with a 15 inch Powerbook. Only thing holding me back? Lack of built in bluetooth on it currently. I love the things I can do with bluetooth on my G4 Cube, and would rather it be built in on my laptop.

I think we are in luck, I am now convinced that the atleast the 15" model will be updated this week or next week. At www.berklee.edu they have a computer store that is more or less telling you that there will be new 15" powerbooks within a week - I want the 12" and they dont mention anything about it, but I wouldnt be surprised to see them as well.

I got the original 500 G4 Powerbook when it was firs released and had a year of great computing out of it. The move from desktop to Powerbook is so amazing.
I now have a 667DVI which also handles Quartz Extreme so I think I can stay put until the G5 Powerbook comes out.
My accountant told me I had to sell a computer before I buy a new one and there is no way I could live with just a desktop again. Just ordered a 120GB firewire drive to keep me going.

I'm desperate for an update to the 12" -- but not so I can get the updated model. I want a price drop on the 867mhz. (Assuming some will still be available in retail channels.) My fiancee still is not quite confident we need two computers. A price drop would go far in justifying the purchase.

I also couldn't decide whether or not to buy my 12 inch Power Book. Sometimes, reading these threads can make your head spin. Are updates coming, or not? Finally, I realized that no matter when I bought my PB12, that there would soon be an update...it's inevidable. So now I have a brand new PB 12, and I'm much happier than when I was trying to make the decision.

Do you mean this notice on their page at:
http://www.berklee.edu/computers/con...ning_info.html
PLEASE NOTE
Since we're still awaiting information from the manufacturers, specific details about the hardware and software requirements for each of the majors (which we'd hoped to post to this website on July 1st) will be available the week of July 7th. Our apologies for the delay.

I called up my local Apple Store and asked how many 15" SD machines they have in stock... total of 15. Unless this is some unusually large amount I can't see Apple selling a replacement machine anytime soon with that much inventory. Maybe they'll announce but not ship for several months, or maybe the 15" really is dead until the G5 or at least till Motorola releases the new G4.

Yeah, I don't know. Funny thing is that there aren't that many rumors floating around about Monday.
Right now, I can't decide whether to buy a new 17" or wait for the 15".
I am just getting tired of my Powerbook 800 DVI.

Silence before the storm?
I have decided to go for the 15 inch as the 17 incher is just a bit too big for me. Only time wil ltell if I have made the right decision, although what you never had cannot be a marking point.

Waiting sux. I used to think a G5 PB was coming before WWDC, because in my mind why else would they wait so long to update the 15. If they had done a minor update to the 1gig with the AI shell, AE, and built in bluetooth I would I have gotten one already.

Does anyone think that Macworld in NYC next week would be a good/bad time to release the new 15-incher?

Yep, I think we will see a few things at MacWorld next week including the new PowerBooks 15 with possible speed bump in the rest of the line. An updated iMac too, keeping the 15" as the base model and something to fill the price gap in the middle. Definately the 15" PowerBook though. I just have no desire for to the 15Ti. Ironically my friend at school showed me her brand new 12" PowerBook, beautiful.

Love my 12" but need to get another computer. Well, want. My mother spent years with me when I was little trying to teach me the difference and I never quite figured it out. But what I want is an updated 15" so I have a larger screen to take around on occasion. Or for the 17" prices to drop and maybe I will get one of those...
Decisions, decisions. But historically speaking, it is time for an update, it has been many moons since the last revisions, and the Ti is just really not the same level when you sit it nxt to an Al. I had a 800 mhx Ti before this 12" and I just don't miss it at all...

This is my first post on my just arrived 1 gig Tibook 15" with Superdrive. I've had it for about 2 hours now and all I can say so far is O... M... G...!! This is a beautiful machine. I got a refurb for a terrific price. The LCD screen is perfect, not a single stuck pixel to be found.
Of course now that I bought it, there will most definitely be a new version coming soon . Just like with my G4 500 AGP tower. Not too long after I bought it, the dualies came out for the same price! But even with the threat of a new AL model coming out, I feel pretty good about this purchase. It's on its third or fourth generation so it is refined (no quirks) I'm already doubling my processor speed (from my desktop) so I'm not too concerned about a speed bump. Yeah, the fan is on now, even on idle but it is not obnoxiously loud. The only thing I regret is possibly no built in bluetooth to match my T68i.
On the plus side, this model should still boot into OS 9. I do audio work and in case the OS X versions of Digital Performer and Protools are not up to snuff, I have that to fall back on. Especially in light of the newer models not being able to boot to OS 9. Am I correct in that statement? I am a little leery of the new OS X versions.
This Tibook seems like a great bridge between maintaining compatibility with classic and also being powerful enough to handle the future of OS X computing.

Sounds like you made the right choice, msh. I'm still curious to see whether MWCPNY will bring new PowerBooks or not.
