My gut tells me moving the Home folder from my G4 iMac to my soon-to-arrive 12" PowerBook is not the best way to move everything over. Is this true? Would it F up a lot of stuff?

And to anyone who's just bought a 12" PB, what ver. of the OS is shipping on the thing? 10.2.what?

Thx.

I am sure someone more technical than I can make this work for you, but I had some problems with some libraries not working and I had no idea what to answer as I was given plenty of notes on files replacing like named files. I ended up moving the important stuff (apps, docs, music, mail, etc) and all worked well.

Put the Powerbook in firewire target mode and the transition will be a breeze.

Install OS X on the new 12", create yourself a user, then replace the home directory on the 12" with your original. There shouldn't be any libraries, applications, or anything other than data (prefs, music, whatever) in your home directory. I would advise that you've got the same version of the OS installed on both, just to make sure your prefs are all valid.

As for Applications and the like, I would recommend installing these fresh on the 12". A lot of times it's simply a matter of dragging the app into your Applications folder, but sometimes other things are installed (like libraries).
