From the rumors I've read, some new PBs will be out next week. I'm planning on buying a 12 inch PB, no sooner than a week from Friday (Gotta wait for payday ) but have a couple questions....

What day of the week is the announcement expected to be made? I don't want to wake up at 10 AM to rush out and get my paycheck then get to the bank, then Apple Store if the announcement is Friday afternoon

If the 12 inch PBs are updated to Rev. B:
-When will the ship? Will we have to wait for eternity like the G5s, or does Apple typically make the Rev. Bs available immediatley (I'd be buying it from The Apple Store)
-What's Apple's history with revisions and prices? Is Apple known for keeping the same prices for the Rev. Bs, then dropping the price on the Rev. As?

Thanks

I think that Apple usually announces new stuff on Tuesdays. I wouldn't expect new Power Books to ship right away, though.

count on it being anounced at the next event in about 2 weeks.

Also dont expect them to be out before the G5's, probably later

All I can respond to is events, all the rest is wild speculation.

Non Apple events but,

Macworld CreativePro — New York
Jul 14-Jul 18.

Siggraph— San Diego
Jul 27-Jul 31

Buy when you are ready, if something comes out new the next day, it'll be a few weeks/months before they are available. If you must have the new one take a $300-500 loss and sell your current PB locally or on ebay when the new ones are readile available. Think of it as renting without knowing the term.

SuperPC pricelist now shows PC2100 DDR SODIMM's for the 15" Apple PowerBook - so at least we know the bus speed of the new 15" models.I would also expect the 12" to stay the same but the new 15" and 17" to have optical audio connections much the same as the G5 Power Mac's.

Why would the 17" have optical in/out? I would have loved that on my 17" PB G4 1 GHz.

133 MHz? That would be lame. Even my 1 GHz TiBook with 133 MHz bus is bandwidth limited. A 1.27 GHz machine on a 133 MHz bus would be even more bandwidth limited.

I would have predicted 167 MHz with PC2700 (like the 17").

By the way, I'd expect the speed of the CPUs available to max out at 1.3 GHz for now. For a 133 MHz bus, that'd be 1.27 GHz, and for a 167 it'd be a 1.25 GHz. Hmmm... That wouldn't happen, as then the 15" would have a (very slightly) faster CPU than the 17".

Or could it be that the 17" would be 1.25 GHz, and the 15" would be 1.2 GHz or even as low as 1.13 GHz? The other option is to make them both 1.33 GHz (if the chips allow it), but I don't see that happening.

Maybe the RAM listing is for the current TiBook model.

Enough of the PowerBook threads we must have 20 of them my god. At this point I am just going to wait everything out now is all talk no one knows anything. Its just so odd that the 15 has been neglected this long. I refuse to buy any of the laptops until they are refreshed. Every freaken time I buy a computer they are upgraded the next day and excuse my fresh I will be damned if this happens to me again. Its just like Apple is waiting for me to buy it now so they can release a new one tommorow and spit in my face lol. Not going to happen this time. I am going to patiently wait they will have to upgrade them at some point in time. I will go through college without a Laptop for awhile if I have too. I wont waste my 3000 bucks on a computer that will get upgraded soon. Despite myself wanting to pound my head against the wall in anticipation! RARJALRJLEJRL:JDFLJSDLF HOW MUCH LONGER!!!

The current doesn't use PC2100 DDR, aka DDR266. It uses plain 133 MHz SDR.

Well I have a 17" PowerBook and don't really care. Personally, Apple should drop the 15" and just go with a 12" and 17." I think the 15" is too small.
