Mine burns at 24X and I am puzzled. Anyone care to share their make/model and revision numbers with their burn speeds?

Mine is Matshita CW-8121A, rev. BB21

i thought only the 8122 did 24x burning... i have a 8121, and only 8x burning with the AA21 firmware. you say you have BB21 fw?

Yes, I thought so, too. This is a replacement model I've received two weeks ago.

Revision: BB21
Serial Number:
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-ROM
Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 0

but not complaining.

I think that www.xlr8yourmac.com had an article about upgraded drives in the Ti books a couple days ago.

Couldn't find. You don't remember when, by any chance?

I think that it was in the past three weeks but I cannot find it either--I think that it was from someone who had to send their PB back to apple and had it returned with a newer drive model.

hmmm, i've been wondering about upgrading that drive... the 8x speed is a seriously disappointing aspect of my otherwise great tibook.

the guys at mini-itx.com sell the 8122B (used in the 12")... a well, probably better to get an external DVD+-RW drive anyway...

i guess flashing your firmware on my drive would wreck it

Thanks. And you have a Ti 867? When did you buy it? Must be recently?

I believe this is where we have the inevitable blackadder quote:

"You lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky bastard!"

Have fun with your uber drive. I've had mine replaced twice and I've only had the CW-8121 not the 8121A..

FYI, my drive firmware is AA21.

Lol. Believe me I've gone through a lot of problems (case, 2 X combo drive, keyboard, screen, inverter board replacements in 12 months) and finally got my Ti 667 replaced last month, with a Ti 867. And this is what I got
