hey imac peoples

my summer 2000 imac has had a problem with its microphone for a long time now....i never needed it, so didn't care, but now i need it for ichat av....

here's the problem: the imac seems to think it is hearing loud noises, even though it is not. the little "input-meter" is up all the way, even when no noise is being made. (on my powerbook, when no noise is being made, this meter is almost all the way down, to the left.

the result of this silliness is that when one talks normally into it, you can barely hear the person. the mic is unusable....

all settings are as they should be. is there any way to get this thing working?

-matt

p.s. crap! put this in the wrong forum...please move it!
