This could either mean...
1)... the release of totally cool and new ads for the current models
...OR...
2)... the brand new release of all three Powerbook models, including the 15" Albook
I personally hope its the second one. But I guess with Apple, you never know.

well, the 'less is more, more is more' campaign doesn't exactly work when there's 3 models.. what are they supposed to say, "Less is more. Medium is more. More is more."?

It's a rumor because I just called Apple Computer and they said that they have plenty of Titaniums in stock and can get one to me in two days if I want it.
Full price, no less.

I'm not sure a lack of security at the Apple booth means no new products... maybe they just aren't going to have any on-hand. If Apple does release updated PowerBook(s) with a new processor, they probably won't ship for a while. Or maybe it'll be a quiet announcement at apple.com

I've decided what I'm doing. I'm going to wait till tomorrow, just to make sure there's no "quiet upgrade", and if not, then I'm buying either a 15" TiBook or a 17".
This waiting game is killing me...

The stand might be wide open...
And there can even be some open spaces as someone can walk in with the new Powerbooks in his or her bag. The great thing of portables is that they do not need a huge space nor they need power supply (when you have enough batteries) and wtih airport extreme you can even network without wiring.
So.. open stand is because they want to be able to move in with new Powerbooks as soon as they are announced???
Even Steve Jobs can do an unannounced stand up through the new webcam. With Apple's rtechnology you do not need to be somewhere in person to do a presentation.

Do what I did. Im a PIII 500 user who is literally going insane waiting to switch to a 12" powerbook - I had enough money a couple weeks ago, but since I wanted to wait a few weeks to see if there would be updates I bought an ipod to set me back a few hundred - I can wait until late august/early september and then I will need a new laptop for school - if there are not updates by that time I will just buy what they have - but for now I am going to wait and buy things like isight, and software just waiting for a speed bumped 12" - come on is a 1GHz laptop that much to ask for Apple?

You know what I find amazing?
Apparently more people care about the aluminum case than anything else.
Even if Apple does upgrade the processor there is going to be a marginal speed increase.
I go out to Los Angeles and London and other places on business and people working on Powerbooks are still productive...on G3 500Mhz Pismo Powerbooks and these people are ARE RUNNING HUGE COMPANIES.
A friend of mine who is a BIG Hollywood director, well-known, is working on a Titanium 800Mhz and has no plans to upgrade anytimes soon. I asked him why and he said, "What I have works fine. I have two of them and I've upgraded the hard drives and I have the desktop systems and I have no need to upgrade." In fact, he's one of the people who says that the 17-inch is too large for toting around and the 12-inch is too small for editing.
You know that old saying, "Those who can't do go into teaching?" Well, I have another one: "Those who can't do go buy a newer Powerbook."
Sometimes newer isn't always better.

I agree -- but I want new Powerbooks so prices on used Powerbooks will fall further!

Yeah, if you're buying a Powerbook then you're one of the smart persons taking advantage of someone else's foolishness over the "newer is always better" fallacy.
Some of the most talented and creative people are working on "old" technology.

mark my words, no new AL15"'ers tomorrow. Won't happen. If it does though, I'll be first in line
Seriously, too much open stock. You can get a 15"PB anywhere, right NOW. I'm betting MW this fall will be the new 15".

Personally, I don't really care that much about the casing. I'm a little concerned about the painted Titanium, but not that concerned seeing as how the vast majority of users haven't had any problems.
My problems is I need one YESTERDAY. I'm a software and web developer, and while programming isn't too intensive, working in Photoshop/Dreamweaver/Fireworks on a 600Mhz iBook with 8MB of VRAM is killing me.
Worse than that, I'm getting ready to start writing a user manual for a company I consult for. The downside is that the software the manual is for, is Windows only. In order to write the manual, I need to be able to run the software. I thought about getting a cheap/used PeeCee to run the program with, but given that my iBook is bordering on too slow for what I'm doing, it makes more sense to just get a new PowerBook and run VPC (that way I kill two birds with one stone). But either way, I've got to do something fast, as the manual alone represents a significan amount of income.

Aw Jeez. What a crummy dilemma. I, like you, work with Dreamweaver, Flash, etc. And sometimes I just need to use a pc for whatever reason. Solution? Friends of mine and I have chipped in for a run-o-the-mill pc to use only when necessary. This is obviously a bunch of primarily non-pc users (6 of us: 4 macs and two Linuxs, or BSD or whatever the hell they've got on their hardware...) $1200 divided six ways is, well a good deal. Scheduling is the only issue. But still. Are we the only ones to resort to such a scheme?

As far as I know, in the world of computing, newer is always better.

Not every three months it's not.
NeXTLoop is a perfect example: Though he would PREFER to be on a Powerbook he's on an iBook -- and getting the job done.
I still think a lot of people equate their egos with whatever computer they have or like having the latest gizmo or gadget as a vanity trophy.

Like I said, the true "pros" don't have to have the latest and greatest system -- and I see this trend over and over again.

You're absolutely right. Every pro I know buys a machine that does what he needs, when he needs it, and then uses the machine as long as he reasonably can. Just because something new comes out, doesn't mean what he has no longer does what he needs.

Well I totally disagree with the person that said its not going to be upgraded until MacWorld. First of all I dont want to come down harsh, but they released the AL case on new powerbook models last macworld. Who cares if they put it on the 15. The only way they would is if it would be a G5 which wont happen for a year or more. Secondly the TI doesnt even have built in bluetooth or airport extreme. It also doesnt have FireWire 800. If it gets these things then Ill buy it. I would buy it if it was missing the FireWire 800 too. All I ask is for a refreshed 15. If they can refresh the iBook they will for sure upgrade the TI. Who cares if they change the case even though I wish they would, The point is it needs to be up to par with its brothers.

You know guys if the powerbook 15 gets the latest and greatest things it will last longer and be more of value. For me being a college student this is crucial. For example would USB 2.0 not give it more value? I dont care for USB 2.0 but I am making a point.

I kinda think Apple can handle serveral new products at a time, they may be small, but they aren't that small yet.

No, the 7457 is far superior to the current 7455.
And yes, in this case, newer is better.

I sold my Ibook in Feb. and was going to wait for the AL 15" units.... in March, I gave in and bought the TIBook, and now 3 months later I'm really glad I didn't wait... I'd still be without a Mac!

I'm as anxious as the rest of you for a new 15". I'm using a Ti/550 that actually belongs to my university. Whenever I buy a new one, I can keep it for as long as it lasts. I'm certainly waiting for the better wireless range and no-chip case. Double or triple the processor speed will be great too. Another month or two is no big deal, but let's hope it's on the low side of that range.
And new machine today wouldn't hurt either!!
