I have just purchased a Powerbook G4 800 secondhand with OSX 10.2/9.2. The desktop size is too large for the internal LCD. In 10.2 I can't see the dock (off the screen too low) or the icon for the harddrive (too far to the right). In 9.2 the clock menu is off the screen on the right hand side. AS it is affecting both OSs I thought it was a hardware setting and have tried:
1. zapping the PRAM
2. Re-setting the Open Firmware
3. Deleting the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist file.
None of these worked. Problem does not affect external monitor (mirrored or spanned). If I lower the res. to 800x600 I start to see the the top of the Dock and part of the hardrive Icon.

Any other ideas would be helpful.

Cheers

Richard
I am trying to find out what the story is from the seller - but haven't had any luck yet!

That is truly bizarre. What resolutions do you see listed in the Displays preferences? Do you see all the menus along the top of the screen? Is there any chance that the machine thinks that an external display is attached? This can happen if there is something wrong with the external video detect circuitry.

I can see the menus and the Left hand side is aligned correctly. I can see correct list of resolutions in the Display Prefs. One suggestion from another forum was that this has had a screen from an older 667 powerbook put on it! Anyway to tell?
