Wow - I don't want a Dell - I don't want a Toshiba, I don't want a Sony - but they do release new products more than once a year - Come on Apple! there is still a chance this is a tease and they will update the site later after the keynotes - I mean would they really close the store in the morning when they know people are watching it just to put a new piece of crappy software -Its got to be sleight of hand. or i hope so anyway.

Its like you are going after your dream girl, and she says yes, and everything looks good then it all falls apart. Oh what a cruel world we live in lol. Whatever, I am ordering my 12" PB today, I would maybe wait it out if these new PB's would be G5 based, but they are not gonna be anyway.
Maybe Joz will announce something.

Didn't really think that there would be a PB announcement.
Anyway, if someone HAS to have a new Powerbook I've listed one over in the MacNN Marketplace: 1Ghz Superdrive.
They have some great ads over there.
Meanwhile, lets see what Joz has to say?
Heard that Steve Jobs sold his Manhattan apartment a couple of weeks ago, also, so maybe he's through with New York for good?

Maybe a journalist can help us by asking Steve Jobs what the plans of Apple are when they release the half year figures.
I tell you they could have been better if they only had released an improved 15inch.
BTW you still can buy any of the POwerbooks of Apple. They are not bad. On the conterary I would say. And even when you buy one today and Apple releases new computerstomorrow you have got a super de luxe machine

The longer I wait the more pissed I get. If Steve had any brains he would have updated the 15 inch pb a long time ago. Why? B/C of the MONEY it would bring.
If apple wants to succeed in this business they need to be a little more smart on updates. Its been what 8 months since the 15 inch pb has been updated? I dont want an old powerbook. To me it seems as if Steve is like hmmm this needs an update, lets rush to put it in the keynotes and then make people wait months to get it. If they were smart they woudl wait, have products ready at keynotes.

Keynote is over, no news of new PBs, Yick. I'm buying a 12" to "tie me over" but wait . . . Siggraph is just a few weeks away hehe.
It's not Apple's fault. They're waiting on Motoslowa to crank out the new G4 chips, then they should release all 3 models with the new chip.
Unless the 12" is a redesign no DVI but at least we'll get more cache.

Blimey, the way some of you guys are speaking you'd think Apple hadnt introduced new PBs for ages and ages. It was only 4 months ago that the 17" started shipping! As to sony, dell, et. al. The powerbooks are so far ahead it is embarassing. OK, so even cooler Apple gear would have been nice, bu if hou cant find a PB that will keep you happy amongst the current lineup then you will never be satisfied!

Many of us are waiting on a Aluminum 15". This will give us:
Airport Extreme
Better Keyboard (that doesn't scratch the screen)
Bluetooth
Faster Sys Bus
Unpainted surface
This will satify me and . . .
.. perhaps it will have a frosty glowing keyboard and FW800.
It's been 9 months since the 15" has been updated.
Think I'll re-enter the Army and go to SERE school, it would be less torturous.

Considering that Apple has to somehow keep stringing the G4 along for another year or so in the PowerBook line, it isn't so surprising that there was no announcement. It doesn't seem like they can squeeze more than two more speed improvements out of Motorola's current line which they'd have to ration over a year or more.

Apple is concentrating on Tower sales which are more important for them at the moment. Lets stop crying and face the facts. You guys make me sick. I am waiting for the AL 15 too but you dont see me crying cause Apple didnt do what I wanted. Hell soundtrack looks awesome. Jesus you act like the company should revolve around you. The majority demand is for the G5 towers. Although I do expect a PB update soon anyway for college students. I am not that worried. Like I said somewhere else expect a quiet upgrade. We know about AL so it would come to NO surprise.

YEAH!!! And while we are at it, all you people who say that the 17" should have a better graphics card, or bigger drive, or, better this, better that, and want to wait for the next revision blah blah blah..... same goes for you...whip out your wallet and buy one now, or wait, quityerbitching and sit on it....

lol remember this was a CREATIVE EXPO so did you really expect hardware. Apple just released a whole bunch of new hardware a few weeks ago. Soundtrack fits with what this Expo is supposed to Target. I have to say I am really not surprised. Although I am getting a little impatient which might be why some of you are whining too. So I suppose its understandable but really are we surprised. I think it was just wishful thinking on our parts.

And just so yall know Apple doesnt make much money off thier hardware. They sink so much in R&D that the make very little on thier hardware, reguardless if they are more expensive.
They make most of thier money on accesories and software.

djjava He makes a good point. This goes for those of you who want this and want that. Like the G F****** 5 powerbook. Are the PowerBooks not fast now. If you have the spunk to sit at your computer and say that they are slow you got some nerve. They arent slow processors. Really people how much power do we need anyway.
Only reason I am waiting is because I am a student and would like to get Blutooth built in and stuff like that in my 15 so that way my machine will last longer in the long run. Some of you are probably lucky enough that this isn't a concern for you. I hate to say it but the mac community has been quite bitchy lately. If you ask me apple has done wonderfully. While you guys have been complaining have you sat back and actually thought about how much that company has accomplished in this year. I mean look at all the great stuff.
17, 12 inch powerbooks
iSight
iChat
Panther
Safari
iLife
Soundtrack
FCPro4
iPod II
THIS LIST GOES ON!!!
So why do you guys actually think it would take an expo to release such a minor upgrade to the powerbook line. They didnt have an expo for the G4 Tower when it got Bluetooth built in.
Patience it will come in par with its brothers soon enough. Lets just stop the rumors and speculation and sit back and relax. Its not like the word is falling of its axis. I think Apple has done 100% more than I ever expected this year and I have never been prouder to be an apple user. I can walk with my head up high now more than ever before.
As the last poster commented you guys are never going to be happy by the way you talk.

you will...and if you get one right now, you won't regret it, and you may actually kick yourself for waiting.
What kind of speedbump is worth the wait? .25ghz???? eh... talking to me when it makes a .5ghz or full ghz jump... otherwise, small beans. Same goes for a 2-gb jump in HD space. even if the drive went up tp 7200rpm, external firewires can come a larger size, and can serve dual purpose.

Yeah he brought about the 17 inch pb, too big for some ppl. And then the 12" pb that can cook my eggs in the morning and is to small for others.

I will admit steve has done a nice job. But I feel his company can go a lot further if they wish in the market. The demand is there, look at all the apple products in the media and life compared to 3 years ago. If the demand is there he should keep up the want for that demand.

What a bizzare idea, a company that puts customer satisfaction as their primary goal - do you know what an apologist is? Perhaps the right term is appleogist. Am I coining a new term?

People are waiting for reasons that you described yourself. Yes, the machines are fast enough now, but will they be in three or four years? People want to do the same thing that you are doing, so there machine will last in the long run. Getting bluetooth, AE, a more sturdy case, a 25% speed bump, etc are major reasons to wait.
For example, I got my 1Ghz Ti in november, over eight months ago. If someone bought the same machine today they'll feel like upgrading at the same time I do, but they will get less use out of their machine.
In the world of tech, buying older technology is something to avoid, especially when looking towards the future. Why buy something now when it will last eight months fewer than you'd like? Now if it wasn't on "the verge" of updating for so long I'd agree to buy the Ti, but when the update is this close, it would be stupid to buy anything now, unless it's necessary.

I agree you should always try and get the best you can for your money when buying a new computer. However, you have two options:
A) Buy the best machine out now. or
B) Buy the best machine out later.....
(notice a lack of option "C": wait to buy a new machine and bitch constantly about the "stupidity" of the company who's product you are so desperatly waiting for)
Jobs has a plan. And in Jobs we trust.

I need new powerbooks. Starting a business with the soon to be updated powerbooks does not make sense. I need them before this month ends.....

I was just trying to be funny. im not some weirdo or anything, my Jobs shrine only has 60% real hair. Im just saying give credit to those in charge. They know what they are doing, and as far as revolving around the customers... apple does a better job than any other computer manufacturer i can think of. I dont think you are all going to go run out and buy a dell because you had to wait an extra week for speed bumped powerbooks.

Iam going for the Powerbook 17inch. It is what I want. Never mind that there will be updates later this year or even next month.
For me 1GHZ is fast enough and all the goodies on it make it a computer to be seen with.
Now I only have to find a great deal on a new one as I hate these mail in rebates things.
So anybody a good suggestion for a shop that can ship me one to Emeryville (CA) where I do not have to pay taxes and that preferably accepts foriegn credit cards. (yes, I am working for two years in the USA for my boss, but as I do not have an American social security number no credit card wants to give me an American credit card, so I have to stick to my European ones)
Oh yeh, I am NOT in the market for a second hand. I like to mess things up myself.

Ha! Everyone acts as if Apple has said, "We're NOT updating the PowerBooks. Sorry."
THEN everyone would have a right to complain. But instead people are just whining like little babies. I realize this is a Mac board and we're all Mac zealots so emotions run high... but seriously. C'mon people. Inhale and exhale a little bit. PowerBooks will be updated. If you can wait, then good. Do it. If you need a laptop now Apple has 5 that you can choose from. If you're 'gonna go to Dell' then screw you and get off the boards.
