DevNine: There is a thread in the Mac Modification forum about somebody who grafted a PC Card slot into the optical drive bay of an iBook (see PC Card slot in an iBook). But I imagine this solution is too involved for you.

I don't know of any FireWire to PC Card adapters, although I've heard of USB to PC Card adapters on the Wintel side. What kind of PC Card are you hoping to use with your 12-inch PowerBook? In any case it is quite likely that there is a USB- or FireWire-based alternative to a PC Card solution. E.g. a FireWire CF card reader is faster than a PC Card one anyway. There are USB- and FireWire-based data acquisition modules that replace PC Cards, etc.

If you absolutely need to have a PC Card slot in a G4 PowerBook, and don't want to back together a solution, the 15-inch and 17-inch PowerBooks are indeed your only options.

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply Escher.

That ibook mod is nice but I need and use the dvd/cdrw drive so modding the powerbook is out of the question

I've been searching online and have found scsi --> pccard , pci--> pccard adaptors but no firewire or usb.I heard that usb is too slow so that leaves firewire.

I have an internal airport ext

I have an internal airport extreme card but I want to an alternative wireless card to which I can attach an antenna.Kismac ( http://www.binaervarianz.de/projekte...mieren/kismac/ ) KisMAC supports third party PCMCIA cards with Orinoco and PrismII chipsets, as well as Cisco Aironet cards and not airport cards.

KisMAC supports AirPort cards just fine. Just use the driver utility to activate the Visha driver. Then when you are done using KisMAC, use the utility to stop it. Simple as that.

iStumbler (search MacUpdate.com) also works with Airport cards. What does kismac do that MacStumbler and iStumbler don't?!

Kismac doesn't support AirportExtreme cards, and probably never will...

MacStumbler and iStumbler are nice looking apps, but can't do nearly as much as Kismac.

I'm also looking for a way to get Kismac to work on my 12" pbook, but haven't done much research.

I wonder if one of the USB wireless cards would work with Kismac.
